FAQs/Policies ~ Please make sure you have read ALL of the FAQ/Policy sections before booking a consultation or nano appointment! Please e-mail info@caracaracosmetic.com before booking if you have any questions or if you’re unsure if you are a candidate for nano eyebrow tattoo.
-
Nano eyebrow tattoo is a type of cosmetic eyebrow tattoo that utilizes a tattoo machine and ultra-fine needles sometimes referred to as “nano” needles. Pigment is implanted beneath the skin to create realistic-looking hair strokes and add shading in the eyebrows to enhance their shape and make them appear denser.
-
Unlike regular tattoos, the nano technique only implants pigment into the epidermis and upper dermis, which means a reasonable amount of fading is to be expected. This is the reason permanent cosmetics are sometimes referred to as “semi-permanent”. Being that it is a tattoo on your face, it can actually be beneficial for the results to fade considerably over time because our face structure/shape can change due to things like aging, and eyebrow style trends also change over the years. The level at which the eyebrow tattoo fades depends on several factors like skin-type, lifestyle, after-care, pigment, and brow style. For example, hairstrokes tend to fade much more compared to more bold styles like powder brows, which can last in the skin much longer. However, like any tattoo, the results may be permanent regardless of the style of the brows, and clients must be aware that invasive options like laser treatment may be required if eyebrow tattoo removal is ever needed. Because there are so many factors that influence how well the pigment retains in the skin, individual results may vary. It is important to keep all of this in mind when considering eyebrow tattoo.
-
Yes and no! This all depends on the style of eyebrows you like and how dense or bold you prefer them. For some, the healed result of nanoblading may not be enough to completely replace filling in the brows with makeup. It may lessen the time it takes to do your eyebrow routine, but it is not meant to completely replace makeup in those instances where a very bold eyebrow is desired.
-
As with any tattoo, we will be implanting pigment into the skin by puncturing it with a needle, which can feel like a scratching or burning sensation. Everyone’s pain tolerance varies, but the procedure is more than tolerable for most people and many describe it as a light scratch. We do not pre-numb the skin in order to get better healed results, but we do apply a local anesthetic numbing gel after the first and subsequent passes to blanch the skin, stop bleeding, and make it more comfortable for the client. After the secondary numbing is applied, most clients attest that they can barely feel anything.
-
Yes! In-person consultations are free and available to book to go over brow styles, pigment selection, and patch testing if necessary. We will map your eyebrows and use a wax eyebrow pencil to give an impression of what the tattoo will look like. Please email info@caracaracosmetic.com to book a free consultation.
-
-Touch-up appointments performed between 5-12 weeks after the initial tattoo are not required, but are a typical part of the nano brow tattoo process. This is so we can assess how the tattoo has healed and make any changes if necessary. It is also to add longevity to the tattoo. After the initial touch-up, clients may need an annual appointment to touch up results, while some clients may only desire a touch-up every couple or few years. It is entirely up to the client’s preference and the artist’s discretion to decide whether a touch-up is appropriate.
-To schedule a touch-up, please email info@caracaracosmetic.com or call/text 510-813-6797
-Please do not book an annual touch-up without sending in current photos of brows to make sure you are a candidate for a touch-up.
-Please keep in mind that with the initial tattoo appointment, it is better to see more fading than to be stuck with something bold. Nano brow tattoo can be a process, and depending on your healed results, we can always go bigger or bolder in a touch-up session if desired.
-
Nano eyebrow tattoo is suitable for all skin-types!
-
-As a safety precaution, we do not tattoo women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
-We also cannot accept clients who have taken the drug Accutane or any of its forms within one year of tattooing, due to the side effects of the drug which cause extreme regeneration of the skin. This can lead to poor healed results or even disfigurement due to tattooing on the compromised skin.
-Clients with conditions such as vitiligo, alopecia, hemophilia, a history of keloid scarring, any medical condition that could affect proper healing, those who are prone to infection, or any medical condition that could be triggered or made worse by injuring the skin via tattoo should consult their medical professional before booking a nano brow appointment to ensure they are a candidate.
-Please note that we cannot tattoo over broken skin or any skin condition that is affecting the brow area such as a rash, acne, eczema, psoriasis, or dermatitis.
-If you have any medical condition where lying down for several hours could affect your ability to breath, you should also consult your medical professional to see if you are a candidate for eyebrow tattooing.
-
If you have previous eyebrow tattoo, please email info@caracaracosmetic.com with clear photos of the eyebrows before booking. If the tattoo is faded enough and the shape is reasonable for me to work on, I will consider cover-up work pending approval. If you book an appointment with previous tattoos on the eyebrows without getting approval first, I will unfortunately have to forfeit your deposit if you do not notify me before the 48-hour cancellation window.
-
The appointment will begin by going over which style of brow you would like and what will suit your anatomy and skin type for best healed and aesthetic results. Then we disinfect the area. We map out the brows according to your face shape and contour, and pre-draw with a wax pencil what the overall shape and density of the brows will look like once tattooed. From here we will make any adjustments to the brows to suit your liking and for facial symmetry. Then we will determine which pigment or combination of pigments will be the best match for your skin tone, hair color, and overall aesthetic goals. Then the tattooing begins! We secure an outline and initial hairstroke lines first, if any, and then apply a layer of numbing gel in between each pass with the machine until we are done with the procedure. Before and after photos will be taken. From there we will go over after-care instructions and discuss booking a touch-up appointment.
-
At this time masking is not required. I ask that you please inform me ahead of time if you are experiencing any symptoms of sickness before coming in for your appointment so we can reschedule. If you require that we are masked during the procedure please also let me know ahead of time.
-
A 50% non-refundable deposit fee will be required to book an appointment. Deposits can only be transferred in the event that you reschedule. The deposit will be deducted from the appointment cost. To avoid forfeiting your deposit, any cancellations and rescheduling must be done at least 48 hours before the start of the procedure appointment time. Clients who arrive more than 15 minutes late to an appointment may be subject to a cancellation and forfeit their deposit. If you are going to be late or cannot make your appointment due to unforeseen circumstances, please contact me as soon as possible at info@caracaracosmetic.com or 510-813-6797 before the appointment to avoid cancellation and forfeiting your deposit. You may also be required to pay a new deposit to rebook if you arrive late or provide short notice cancellation. Please be respectful of my time and make sure you can commit to your appointment date and time!

To ensure the best healed results, there are several precautions prospective clients must keep in mind before booking.
Sun Exposure:
Sun exposure to the face must be severely limited for at least two weeks before the procedure. Any tanning or sunburn to the area will result in poorly healed brows and may even result in scarring. If any sunburn or peeling skin on the face is present on the day of the tattoo procedure, I unfortunately will have to cancel and reschedule your appointment, forfeit your deposit, and you will be required to pay another deposit to rebook. Please let me know prior to the 24-hour cancellation window if you need to reschedule due to sunburn or tanning.
Products and Procedures to stop:
-First, you must stop using all face products close to the brow area (keep in mind product can travel) like retinols, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide, or any type of product that causes skin to regenerate rapidly (such as acid exfoliants like AHA or BHA) for at least two weeks before the tattoo procedure. This is to ensure that your skin will be ready to hold on to the pigment.
-Accordingly, aggressive facials, chemical peels, and laser treatments should be done at least one month before the tattoo procedure for the same reason unless the brow and surrounding brow area can be completely avoided.
-Any medications, vitamins, supplements, and herbs that thin the blood (including ibuprofen, aspirin, vitamin E, vitamin B3, and fish oil supplements) should be avoided for at least 24 hours before the procedure, as it can affect proper healing.
-On the day of the appointment: no alcohol or caffeine before coming in as it can cause excessive bleeding and swelling and lead to poorly healed results
-Botox and filler should be done at least 3-4 weeks before the tattoo procedure, as we want the substance to properly settle in the face so we make sure the brows do not move as the facial muscles change and relax in different ways. I will be resting my hand on/around the brow and forehead area during the procedure and do not want to apply pressure to the area if you’ve recently had fillers or botox, since it can move it around the face in undesired ways. Ideally, Botox and filler should be done after the brows have fully healed for best results.
-Threading, waxing, and tweezing of the eyebrow area should be avoided for at least two days before the tattoo procedure. In addition, any henna or brow tinting should be avoided for at least two weeks before the procedure so that we can accurately color match your brows.
-Since the appointment can last up to 5 hours, please make sure to eat and hydrate beforehand.
-Wear comfortable clothing and bring a jacket or blanket if you would like for your comfort. I have a bed heater but I have no control over the climate in my space and it tends to run cold.
-
I kindly ask that you do not bring anyone with you to your consultation or brow tattoo appointment. I have no extra seating, my space is very small, and since I am tattooing your face, I want to minimize any distractions:). Thank you for your understanding!
-
-After your tattoo procedure, we will go over after-care instructions and you will receive an after-care kit with written instructions.
-It is normal for the brows to feel like a mild sunburn with light swelling, soreness, or tightness for the first couple of days. If there is any abnormal or persistent swelling, pain, discharge, or any other sign of infection, please contact your medical professional immediately.
-The presence of lymph fluid on the brows after the tattoo procedure is normal and a good sign the body is healing the tattoo. However, starting immediately after your tattoo procedure, we advise you to gently dab the brows with clean tissue whenever there is a build up of lymph fluid until you go to sleep that evening. This is because we want to avoid the fluid forming a crust or scab on the brows, which can potentially pull pigment out of your new brows. The lymph fluid should stop after the first day.
-Avoid putting any product, including makeup, sunscreen, and especially Neosporin on the brows for the first ten days. It is ok to gently dab a thin layer of the provided moisturizer or an unscented, gentle moisturizer onto the brows if there is excessive dryness or flaking.
For the first ten days of healing:
-it is best to avoid sweating on or near the brow area to avoid pigment loss. Exercise is fine so long as you are not sweating in the brow area.
-You must not soak the brows or directly submerge them in running water (for more than a few seconds) in the shower for the first ten days. I will provide you with shower visors you can use for this period :)
-The eyebrows may get itchy, and minimal flaking and scabbing is normal. However, it is imperative not to touch or scratch the brows. You especially want to avoid touching the brows with unclean hands to avoid infection. It is ok to gently dab or tap the brows with clean hands or tissue.
-In general, but especially during the first two months following the tattoo procedure, it is important to avoid direct sun or tanning exposure on the brows, as it can greatly affect the healing and/or prematurely fade or change the tattoo pigment. Once the skin is completely healed (after about one to two weeks) it is ok and advisable to start using sunscreen on the eyebrows. Protect your investment!
-For the first two months, avoid any facial treatments, chemical peels, fillers, botox, retinols, salicylic acid, glycolic acid, AHA, BHA, benzoyl peroxide, or any other product or treatment on or near the brow area to avoid premature fading of the brows. If you want to do one of these treatments sooner, make sure it is not near the brow area and at least wait until the tattoo has completely healed (about ten days to two weeks).
-For the first few days, the brows may seem extremely dark and bold. Don’t panic! As the brow tattoo heals, the pigment will settle, and new layers of skin will form over and lighten them, which can then lead to the brows looking patchy. After about a week, the brows may even seem like they are fading much more than they are supposed to. This is also normal, so no need to panic! Once more skin regenerates after the initial healing phases, the brows will reappear closer to the final healed result. After about one month is when you will see the result, and you can decide based on this if you would like to schedule a touch-up appointment.

-If, in the days leading up to the procedure, you get a wound, sunburn, or develop any skin condition such as eczema or acne on or near the brow area, please make sure to contact us to cancel or reschedule before the 48-hour cancellation window.
